Frequently asked questions
Q. Where does the urine go? Won't it get under the mats and create a smelly mess?
A. Good installation is the simple solution to this problem. A tightly fitting set of mats will have seams so narrow that they will quickly pack and "self seal". Remember that the mats are 100% non-absorbent so the urine stays on top - giving the bedding time to absorb it. Even if there is a small amount of seepage, you will not experience an odour problem because urine only turns to ammonia when exposed to air. Absorbent mats or systems that stand above the concrete, are the ones that create the problems. The Stable Mat is non-porous, and its weight keeps it tight to the floor.
Q. Do I have to use a particular disinfectant?
A. The Stable Mat are not only resistant to damage by shoes and forks , they are not harmed by proprietary disinfectants. We recommend using Stable Safe disinfectant to keep your stable germ free.
Q. Do I have to use bedding with a Stable Mat floor?
A. Most definitely "yes". Without bedding a horse will neither feel nor look good. With a matted floor you'd don't have to use anything like the quantity of bedding that you normally need for protection and cushioning. Everyone manages their stables differently, but savings on bedding will normally be in the region of 50% - 80%. Remember, your bedding is going to be primarily for absorbency which means that shavings, chopped paper and hemp based products, are much more effective than straw. Many users only bed a portion of the floor area some use virtually nothing.
Q. Will I save time on mucking out?
A. Absolutely! The Stable Mat users tell us time and time again that they have slashed mucking out time . The reason being that your are dealing with a level floor and less bedding. A minimal bed means that you can quickly remove all the wet and soiled material and top up with fresh bedding - rather than fighting a battle with conventional bedding systems.
Q. There are so many types of flooring systems advertised - why should I choose The Stable Mat?
A. The beauty of The Stable Mat system is:
it's simple
it's proven
it's it saves time and money
More sophisticated ideas where mats are absorbent, or permit damage underneath, tend to end up causing unpleasant odours, needing frequent removal and cleaning and cost the earth!
Q. Do I have to use a particular disinfectant?
A. The Stable Mat are not only resistant to damage by shoes and forks, they are not harmed by proprietary disinfectants. We recommend using Stable Safe disinfectant to keep your stable germ free. |
